a summer & fall thrifted bargain decor + affordable fashion haul
I recently took a couple thrift store trips for the first time in months and ugh, it was so fun. It didn't hit me how much I missed looking at shelves upon crowded shelves of charming clutter until I was inside the automatic doors.
Thrifting is something that definitely makes my world feel a little more normal. Perhaps just one more wicker basket will fill the COVID-sized hole in my life?
Because thrift stores near me have recently phased into opening, options in both the home decor and clothing sections hadn’t been scooped up yet. I left the store with a cart-full of new belongings (that I promptly disinfected and/or washed).
Here are my purchases! Some are perfect as I bought them and others will be thrift flips or DIY projects. I hope this inspires you to (safely) pursue some fun and happiness.
HOME DECOR FINDS:
Wall mirror: $5.99
This mirror is in rough shape but is the perfect size for a wall in the bedroom I’m making over at my mom's house. I plan to scrub the surface and paint the frame a clean white.
Round storage basket: $5.99
This basket matches a rectangular one I already own, so when I saw this I had to pick it up. I’m a huge sucker for cute storage, so honestly, I could have left with a tower of these.
Over-the-shoulder picnic basket: $7.50
Y’all. I jumped up and down when I saw this. I’ve been looking for a picnic basket online for forever, even though I dreamt of finding one at a thrift store that I could customize and then create my own picnic set with. I’m looking forward to making a big deal out of eating far away from crowded restaurants while the weather is still nice.
This was such a unique thrift find. I love that this basket has sleeves attached that can hold wine or thermoses for the cold season. I'm not in love with the pattern of the lining so I’ll be either switching out the lining fabric or painting it with a fabric paint.
4 whiskey glasses: $1.49 each
I also found these glasses to go with the picnic basket! They have a gorgeous crystal detailing on the bottom and they fit in one of the sleeves attached to the basket. I can’t wait to go to the state parks with these in tow.
FASHION FINDS:
A New Day blazer: $14.99
A New Day is one of my favorite Target brands so this blazer is a dream. The color is perfect and the fit is just a little oversize. It was more spendy for a thrifted item but it’s in great condition so I had to have it!
Blue striped top: $7.50
This top is so lightweight. I also love the print! This might be a thrift flip too--I don’t know how I feel about the tie detail at the bottom, so I might ask my sister to remove it and re-hem the bottom. We’ll see!
Universal Threads dress: $6.99
This dress looks black and grey in the photo but is actually a navy color (I know, you just gasped--I never wear color). This dress has a frayed hem and is the type of piece that can be dressed down with sandals or dressed up with heels. Plus, the fabric is really nice!
Aldo heeled booties: $9.50
It sounds counterintuitive, but it’s a great tip to look for clothing items in their off-season. If it was winter, these boots would probably have been snatched already. These are originally from Aldo and are in great condition. Catch me wearing them all season long!
Two-toned leather purse: $11.99
And for the star of this haul, this purse is one of my favorite thrift finds! It’s in gorgeous condition and I love that it's so lightweight. The brown handles paired with the black body and gold hardware means that this will go with pretty much everything.
It was so so nice to feel like things are a little more normal out in the world. Don’t forget to be respectful by wearing a mask and sanitizing your hands often! Happy thrifting!
