how to make a cup of ginger tea that will keep you feeling cozy

Spring isn’t far off, but winter is still here in Minnesota. We’re still having those gray days but ever so slowly it’s getting warmer. While I’ve been dreaming of sunny days, a little ginger tea with honey has been tiding me over in the meantime. Luckily it is incredibly simple and easy to have ginger tea homemade.

There are tons of benefits to ginger. Ginger tea is good tor acid reflux and nausea. If you’ve never used it fresh in anything before, you’re missing out. It has the BEST smell and an amazing warming quality that makes it perfect to drink hot on a cozy day or iced on a warm one.

Ingredients:

ginger root (about 1/4 cup worth)

6 cups water

lemon slices or cinnamon stick

honey, to taste

How to make ginger tea:

So, to start, we need some ginger root. I will admit I go through cups of this tea at a time so I usually use enough ginger to yield about 1/4 cup of chopped pieces.

For tea, there's no need to peel the ginger. I usually strain out any pieces later on.

  1. Chop your ginger into pieces about 1/4 inch pieces. Add to a pot with 6 cups water.

2. Set the water on high heat until it comes to a rolling boil. Once boiling, turn the heat down to low and let simmer for 10 minutes uncovered.

3. Remove your pot from the heat and let the tea cool. The water should now have taken on a yellow tinge.

4. Once cooled, strain immediately into a teapot or carafe. Serve with a cinnamon stick or slices of lemon and as much honey as you desire.
